Is nanomedicine possible?

Question by Lion: Is nanomedicine possible?
Nanomedicine is the purported future technology in medicine whereby scientists believe that the use of nanotechnologies will be posssible in the treatment of diseases such as cancer

Best answer:

Answer by oncogenomics
You are asking people to predict the future. I don’t believe you can get a reliable answer especially in a forum such as this.

Nanomedicine certainly has lots of potential. However, there are alot of basic problems that it has to overcome prior to it becoming a reality such as:

1. how to avoid being recognized as foreign and attacked by the immune system
2. how to get the nanoparticles to the desired location

What do you think? Answer below!

NanoMedicine Cancer Drug Delivery

Medicines do not simply enter the body and wander around until they finds something to cure, and getting compounds to their intended target is one of the biggest challenges for drug manufacturers. The virtual lab in NanoMission V2 allows you to go from the organ view down to individual cells, analyzing the cells compositions, traveling down the blood stream and seeing the medicine you’ve created in action.

3 Ways Nanomedicine Helps In Cancer Treatment

3 Ways Nanomedicine Helps In Cancer Treatment

When one is diagnosed with cancer, the feeling of being lost will definitely linger around her. Then, questions will start running through your mind whether there are any treatments or medicines to stop the cancer cells from spreading or even kill the harmful cells. One of the treatment processes involves diagnostics tools which are used to locate the general location of that particular tumor of the cancer cells. However, with the advancement of technology, nanomedicine has been developed where it has the ability to specify the specific location of the targeted tumor for treatment.

There are 3 steps that are involved in curing cancer by using nanomedicine. When the diagnosis has been made, there is not much time to lose. Treatment should be initiated promptly as it provides one a better chance of destroying the cancer cells with proper medications as well as therapies. This is how nanomedicine helps to make the process more effective:

Injection of medication on the target is used to surround the cancer cells. Once injected, the medicine will move towards the cancer site and have the area that needs treatment surrounded.
Treatment as well as focused diagnosis is conducted. Nanomolecules which are only visible on imaging tests are able to help the doctors to concentrate the treatment on the correct area. The images shown on X-rays are nanos which can be seen around the cells as a bright ring.
When the doctors are able to locate precisely the location of the cancer cells, they can have radiotherapy to concentrate at that particular cell without having to damage tissues surrounding it.

However, nanomedicine is not widely used. This is due to the fact that the knowledge of the long term effect is yet to be discovered. More research needs to be conducted as no one knows how these nanos affect our body after undergoing the treatment.
